Tournaments are similar to Challenges in the sense that programmers compete against one another, but there is an important difference. Solutions from participating programmers are run against each other in multiple matches during night time and receive an ELO-rating based on the results. Programmers therefore have to wait until the next day to know how well they performed.
Tournaments are found on the Challenges page by ticking the Tournament checkbox in the filter section on the lefthand side. Tournaments are sometimes only active for a limited amount of time.
Multiple matches
At the start of a Tournament, participants are divided into groups of four based on their current ELO-rating. Each group then enters a match where solutions from its four participants compete against each other. When a match finishes, participants receive an updated ELO-rating based on their performance.
After the first round of matches, new groups of four are formed based on the updated ELO-ratings, and a new set of matches are run. After a total of five rounds, the Tournament is finished and participants receive their final ELO-rating.
Solutions are entered in the coding Editor.
